It's been a long time- lost my password!

I am so sorry that I have not been blogging regularly...I lost my password and I just found it in a very secure location (my syllabus!) I would like to update you all on my process of implementing new literacies into my classroom. Currently, my computers in my room have not been updated as of yet, but I am trying to introduce Powerpoint to my students to create book reports! So far, my students are really excited to play around with different fonts and insert pictures. In Literacy Centers, we are using the internet to research different topics. In April, our author study was Tomie dePaola, and we went on to his website and scholastic.com's website and we learned a lot of information ( like that he was born right in Meriden,CT) So right now, I feel that I am at the cutting edge with new literacies. Next year I intend to begin the year familiarizing my students to the internet and looking at it with a critical eye. I hope to make use of the computer lab more often, and hopefully Nickey and I get the Technology grant!

Where am I in my journey in teaching new literacies?

Well..... I feel like i'm at the ground level of teaching new literacies...blogging is very new to me as an adult! I feel this class will teach me how to implement in a useful and safe way for my 2nd graders. I did create a cyber lesson for my students to use during literacy centers and it was very effective. The best part of it was that I made the best of a topic that was very bland to begin with(soils). I also let my students use the computers to do activities on starfall.com and scholastic.com. That is the extent of new literacies that I have done ..

This is a place for me to write about my educational experiences.I am currently taking a class at CCSU and I am a 2nd grade teacher by day. Some stories will be funny, others, a learning experience. Hope you enjoy it!
